At Wise Preschool we believe that children learn best through play and purposeful learning experiences. We encourage our children to explore, experience, imaginate and create.

Our centre adopts the Reggio Emilia approach, developed after World War 2 by a teacher, Loris Malaguzzi, and parents in the villages around Reggio Emilia in Italy. Following the war, people believed that children were in need of a new way of learning. The assumption of Malaguzzi and the parents was that people form their own personality during early years of development and that children are endowed with “a hundred languages” through which they can express their ideas. The aim of this approach is teaching how to use these symbolic languages (eg., painting, sculpting, drama) in everyday life.

The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment based on the interests of the children through a self-guided curriculum.

About Lisa

A passion for early childhood education
Lisa Mackenzie

Lisa Mackenzie

Owner / Managing Director

Lisa has always had a passion in early childhood education. As a 6 year old she would be playing teachers with her younger siblings and cousins and had always decided on a career as an early childhood teacher.

Lisa has a Bachelor Of Education (Early Childhood) and is also a specialist Numeracy Teacher.

Wise Preschool developed from a recognised demand for 3 and 4 year old Preschools – from both an educator and parent perspective.

As a specialist Numeracy teacher assisting schools with Whole School Plans after the introduction of the Australian Curriculum, Lisa recognised that early childhood learning centres and programs were more important than ever before. At the same time as a working mother of a three year old, she struggled to find a local 3 year old program that ran for full days. This is how Wise Preschool became reality.
